Brown Bag Lunch: A Watershed Approach to California Landscapes

Monday, September 21, 2015

On Thursday, September 17, The  Association of Professional Landscape Designers, California Chapter hosted a Brown Bag Lunch on the topic of the watershed approach at  the Cal EPA building in Sacramento.

The watershed approach is a natural approach to landscape design, construction, and maintenance that transcends water use efficiency to address related benefits such as rainwater capture; reduction of pollution, energy and cost savings; and human and wildlife habitat improvements.

During the lunch, approximately 50 attendees from varied state agencies, the APLD California Chapter, and other organizations participated in watching the Soil Story film and listening to informative talks on the watershed approach by  Paul Herzog, Ocean Friendly Gardens Coordinator for the Surfrider Foundation, and by Greg Weber, Executive Director of the California Urban Water Conservation Council.

Thursday, September 10, 2015

The watershed approach is a natural approach to landscape design, construction, and maintenance that transcends water-use efficiency to address related benefits such as rainwater capture; reduction of pollution, energy, and landscape costs; and human and wildlife habitat improvements.

Please join us for a brown bag lunch in collaboration with the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, California Chapter (www.apldca.org), on the Watershed Approach to California Landscapes. We will view a short film that emphasizes the importance of permeable landscapes in protecting watershed health.

Following that, Paul Herzog of the Surfrider Foundation (http://www.surfrider.org/programs/entry/ocean-friendly-gardens) will expand on the topic and describe California’s new Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance.
