Phase III of the Spray Valve Installation Program for Restaurants and Food Service Facilities is now underway! Watch
here for the latest program news...
As you probably know,
CUWCC and participating agencies are providing FREE spray valve product and FREE immediate
installation for restaurant, cafeterias, and other food service providers. We are pleased to
announce that food service managers are saying "yes" to these devices and keeping
the field installers busy-- with each field person installing about 8 spray valves in a given day.
Phase I of the program, October 2002 - December 2003, was highly successful. With 16,896 valves
installed, 14,700 acre-feet in water savings was achieved!

Spray Valve Utility Savings
As shown in the chart below (derived from extensive field measurements at 19 existing food
service facilities in California), the Rinse & Save Program provides substantial benefits for
the water utility, the energy utility and the customer.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The above figures were taken from the SBW EM&V report described below and
SUPERCEDE THE WATER SAVINGS DATA SHOWN IN THE RINSE & SAVE FINAL REPORT. The savings data shown in the
table above apply to operations categorized as "very small" and "small," mostly
independent establishments. High-volume food service facilities that serve meals throughout
the day are expected to yield significantly higher savings.

During the course of Phase 1, extensive Program evaluation and measuring took place,
performed by SBW Consulting, Inc., of Bellevue, Washington. The following report and letter
addendum to the report were prepared by SBW in a manner and format consistent with the
requirements of the California Public Utilities Commission. It is from these reports that the
above savings data were taken. Following are the two PDF documents that comprise the Final
Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification Report for the Phase 1 Rinse & Save Program:

A second field measurement study (independent of the Rinse & Save Program) was undertaken in the
Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario. This study corroborates the measurements found by SBW and may
be downloaded as follows:

Phase 2 of the Rinse & Save Program is complete. Another 16,400 PRSVs are verified as installed.
As with Phase 1, SBW Consulting performed a full evaluation and measurement of Phase 2 for the
California Public Utilities Commission. That report, which shows results different from those
achieved in Phase 1, sheds light on where a PRSV replacement program using the Rinse & Save direct
install may NOT be cost-effective (i.e., supermarkets). The full report is available:
